Meta has paused changes to its business and advertising terms that would have allowed automated crawling of websites linked to businesses using its products, The Next Web reported, citing Reuters. Existing terms will remain in place instead of the changes taking effect on November 20.

The pause covers Commercial Terms, Product Catalog Terms, Self-Serve Ad Terms and Ad Creative Generative AI Terms. The Commercial Terms reach businesses that simply operate a Facebook Page. Publishers and advertisers had complained to EU and UK regulators.

Meta says the update consolidated existing crawling rules and that website owners can block its crawler through robots.txt. The proposed terms did not specify that control. Meta has given no date for reviving the changes.
