India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has proposed reducing the deadline for removing unlawful AI-generated content from 36 hours to three hours under draft amendments to the IT Rules. MeitY said the amendments aim to create a safer and more accountable digital environment amid the growing use of AI tools. The draft rules also propose mandatory AI content labelling and faster grievance redress timelines. The amendments are currently in draft form and have been released for public consultation.
