Keppel has started construction on a floating data center project in Singapore, the company said as part of its first quarter 2026 earnings update.

Keppel first explored the floating data center park concept in 2019 and secured regulatory approval in 2023. According to its 2025 annual report, the 25MW project is funded by Keppel Data Centre Fund II and committed to a global hyperscaler, with a target go-live date of 2028.

The project is described as first-of-its-kind and is intended to demonstrate a practical approach to addressing land, energy, and water constraints faced by data centers. A 2025 Keppel environment report said the modular development comprises a four-story, 19.2MW waterborne module and shoreside infrastructure, occupying approximately 9,870 square meters of land and 7,580 square meters of sea space. It will be cooled via seawater.

The facility will be hosted at 25 Loyang Crescent in Singapore. The industrial site was previously owned by oil company Toll and is being sold to real estate firm CapitaLand. Both CapitaLand and Keppel count Singaporean wealth fund Temasek as a major investor.

Several companies have explored floating data centers. US-based Nautilus Data Technologies built a 6.5MW facility on a barge in California, which it put up for sale in November 2024. French startup Denv-R has deployed a small containerized data center on a floating platform in Nantes. Earlier this year, a Japanese consortium announced a pilot offshore floating data center project off Yokohama.

Keppel also said it aims to begin construction of Keppel DC SGP 9 in Singapore in mid-2026.
