# AWS extends Oracle and SQL Server storage autoscaling to additional volumes

_Published Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 4:14 PM EDT · Infrastructure · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says Amazon RDS for Oracle and SQL Server now supports automatic storage expansion on additional storage volumes across all commercial AWS Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. Previously, customers had to provision those volumes manually, although the primary volume supported autoscaling.

Customers set a maximum storage limit for each additional volume. RDS monitors consumption and increases capacity as utilization approaches the provisioned limit, which AWS says happens without downtime. The feature works with new and existing database instances. Autoscaling carries no additional charge, but customers pay for the storage provisioned.
