# Microsoft plans to phase out Windows Deployment Services

Microsoft plans to deprecate Windows Deployment Services with the next Windows Server release, beginning the phaseout of a tool administrators use to install Windows across fleets of computers over a network. The change covers the built-in server role, its management tools and its network boot functions. Microsoft says it will eventually remove the service.

Administrators using Configuration Manager with Windows Deployment Services for network boot or multicast deployment are being advised to migrate those dependencies. The service will continue to work on currently supported Windows Server versions, including Windows Server 2025 and earlier; independent deployment products that do not rely on it are unaffected.
