Apple announced plans to require more explicit user action before apps receive macOS Full Disk Access, citing growing risks from autonomous AI agents, TechCrunch reported. The setting permits access to files, mail, messages and browsing history and was designed to support backups.

Apple said some developers use the permission in ways that expose users' systems without their full understanding. Its announcement follows a journalist's allegation that Meta's Muse app read private messages without permission, which Meta disputed. The planned controls would still allow users to grant the access through explicit action.
