Ring has introduced a system it calls Throw Away the Key Encryption, using unique rotating encryption keys for its videos. A copy of a key is sent to a cloud secure enclave to activate enabled smart-home features, then deleted from the cloud, according to the company. Customers retain access through enrolled devices and can share footage with trusted users. Ring says the system will begin rolling out in September and may take time to reach all users.
