# AWS extends individual user permissions across Regions

_Published Monday, October 26, 2026 at 3:35 PM EDT · Infrastructure, Security · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says IAM Identity Center now carries users' identities between services in different AWS Regions, allowing permissions and audit records to follow individual users and their group memberships.

Previously, services using this feature had to reside in the same Region. Customers reaching services elsewhere had to use broad access roles that could not distinguish individual users, or consolidate services in one Region. The change supports workloads that separate computing from queried data or run across Regions for capacity and disaster recovery.

The feature is available at no additional cost in all Regions where IAM Identity Center is available.
