# Preprint reports lower optimization costs by switching between LLMs

Researchers report in a preprint that adaptively switching between language models reduced cumulative cost while achieving comparable accuracy in synthetic and LLM-completion experiments. The work addresses tasks where models clean data, detect label errors or reconstruct missing values before downstream optimization.

One method selects model fidelity across optimization stages when bias is known; its cumulative cost is no greater than that of the best fixed source in hindsight. When bias is unknown, a second method occasionally uses trusted gradient evaluations to check progress and eliminate unsuccessful sources. Those checks introduce a tradeoff between certification cost and delayed detection of biased sources.
