Flamerix AI finds Claude Code status summaries used 16.4% of estimated spend

Claude Code burns ~15-20% of your tokens on a 3-word status line: a Bun preload that turns agent_summary off · by Flamerix AI, flamerix.ai · MIT - README.md Image: Primary
Flamerix AI reports that background-agent status summaries accounted for 16.4% of its estimated Claude Code spend before it installed a workaround. Its telemetry showed the summaries consumed 19.7% of API requests, sending agents' transcripts to a model to generate short status updates. The developer's Linux-tested workaround suppresses the timer that triggers those requests. Tests across Claude Code versions 2.1.257-2.1.312 found that suppression stopped summary requests, while a control mode preserved them. The spending figures use Claude Code's per-request estimates rather than invoices; subscription users instead lose rate-limit headroom. The workaround stops agent-panel status updates, and software updates can silently break its matching logic.
