TSMC said it is increasing its investments in the United States from a previously planned 165 billion US dollars to up to 265 billion US dollars. The company announced the increase during the analyst conference on the latest business figures. TSMC is the world's largest chip contract manufacturer. To support the larger investment, the company intends to build several semiconductor foundries for chip production as well as packaging plants for further processing. TSMC CEO C.C. Wei was reticent about the exact scope and timeframe of the expansion. He said that about four more plants would be conceivable. The company recently increased its capital expenditures budget for 2026 to between 60 billion and 64 billion US dollars. In addition to the US plants, TSMC is building 13 new plants in Taiwan, one new plant in Japan, and the ESMC plant in Germany is not yet completed. Other construction projects in the USA are also underway. Wei committed only to 2 nanometers or better for the new US plants and not to a firm commitment for newer technology.
