A ransomware attack has halted milk production at Fairlife, a Coca-Cola brand, after the intrusion was discovered today. Coca-Cola disclosed in an SEC filing that Fairlife identified unauthorized access by a third party to a portion of its systems including production-related systems in connection with a ransomware event. The Chicago-based company announced on its website that production operations at Fairlife in the United States are temporarily suspended and that Fairlife's Canada production operations are not currently impacted. After detecting the issue, the company activated its incident response and business continuity protocols and notified law enforcement with help from outside advisors and cybersecurity experts. Coca-Cola did not name the suspected culprit. The company said the full scope, nature, and impacts of the incident are not yet known and it has not determined whether the incident is reasonably likely to materially affect the company. Fairlife added that product quality and safety have not been impacted. Coca-Cola acquired Fairlife in 2020 and the subsidiary operates as a standalone business.
