Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles issued a substitute breach notice on October 16 because it may lack current mailing addresses for affected former customers, The Palm Beach Post reported. The notice reaches people who previously held Florida driver licenses, identification cards or vehicle titles.

Investigators determined that potentially affected information includes driver license and motor vehicle data, document images and other personal information. The department says an intruder used credentials improperly stored by a local law enforcement employee.

The agency is offering affected people complimentary identity and credit monitoring and $1 million identity theft insurance for 1 year. The extent of any compromised driver license information remains unresolved.
