US removes curbs on Anthropic's latest Fable and Mythos AI models

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Anthropic said on Tuesday that the U.S. Commerce Department has lifted export controls on its Fable and Mythos AI models. The move comes less than three weeks after the company was ordered to suspend access to its most advanced AI models over national security risks. Anthropic said all export controls on the models have now been lifted after the implementation of safeguards. The company said it will begin restoring access on Wednesday. In a letter to Anthropic seen Anthropic said in a statement that it has received notice that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. The company said it will begin restoring access tomorrow and will share an update soon. Anthropic said on Tuesday that all export controls on the models have now been lifted after the implementation of safeguards. It is working with the department on the matter.
