Ford claims drivetrain efficiency advantage over BYD for low-cost EV platform

Ford claims drivetrain efficiency advantage over BYD for low-cost EV platform Image: Primary
Ford chief executive Jim Farley says the drivetrain in its new low-cost electric vehicle platform is about 30% more efficient than BYD's, allowing smaller, cheaper batteries while meeting range targets. He made the claim on Ford's third-quarter earnings call this week, The Next Web reported. The Universal EV platform is due to debut in the Fathom midsize electric pickup in late 2027, priced from $28,350 before delivery charges. Ford did not identify the BYD system used for comparison or disclose the Fathom's battery size.
