The Trump administration is considering an export-control measure that would target Chinese access to advanced AI compute through remote servers in countries including Thailand and Singapore, Tom's Hardware reported, citing The Information.

The Commerce Department could share a proposal with trade groups for feedback as early as September. The reported measure would address remote use of AI servers rather than physical chip shipments. The administration has not announced a rule, and an attorney cited in the report questioned whether Commerce can enforce a regulation covering remote access.
