Researchers report that Signal-Aware Adaptive Fusion, or SAAF, increased video anomaly detection throughput by 2.43× on XD-Violence, 2.63× on UCF-Crime and 2.22× on MSAD compared with the prior best zero-shot method. The arXiv preprint describes a system that detects anomalies without training data.

SAAF selects frames using signals for sudden changes and gradual departures from recent context. Lightweight frame scoring then determines when to invoke more expensive video analysis. The researchers report AUC-ROC scores of 92.07% on XD-Violence, 86.70% on MSAD and 80.54% on ShanghaiTech, measuring how well the system distinguishes anomalies. The findings come from benchmark evaluations rather than an operational deployment.
