Vercel says its CI service can now run on GitHub repositories without a linked Vercel project, removing the requirement to create an empty project to connect a repository.

Users need the Vercel GitHub App installed with repository access, connected GitHub and Vercel accounts, and write or admin permission. Running `vercel ci enable` from a repository clone enables configured tasks from the next push. Support is limited to private GitHub repositories; public repositories and other Git providers remain unsupported.
