Thai authorities uncover cross-border fiber link serving suspected Myanmar scam compound

Thailand Myanmar border Image: Primary
Thai authorities uncovered a fiberoptic cable running from homes in Thailand to a suspected scam compound in Myanmar, Tom's Hardware reported, citing SCMP. Officers investigating homes in Nong Lu, Kanchanaburi province, found a 48-core cable stretching 350 meters across the border along pylons. Trairat Viriyasirikul, acting secretary general of Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, said the connection carried about 6 terabytes of data daily, enough to serve 300 to 400 people. The bandwidth was illegally routed to a compound reportedly containing an illegal border casino and a suspected scam center.
