Anthropic enterprise customers lose their negotiated discounts when they use the token volume covered by their contracts, The Information reported, citing software managers who buy from Anthropic and OpenAI. They must renegotiate or pay standard rates. The managers put Anthropic's discounts at about 15% off list price; tokens are the units used to bill for text a model reads and writes.

The report said OpenAI gives customers the rest of the current month and one additional month to agree on a new contract before list prices apply. Some customers also face clauses requiring them to direct most of their AI spending to one platform.
