Related Digital Closes In on $16 Billion Financing for Oracle's Stargate Data Center in Michigan
Image: Primary Related Digital, a data center financing specialist, is nearing the close of a $16 billion financing package for Oracle's planned Stargate data center development in Saline Township, Michigan, according to Data Center Dynamics.
The Michigan project is part of Oracle's participation in Stargate, the joint AI infrastructure initiative announced by Oracle, SoftBank, and OpenAI earlier this year. Stargate aims to build out a network of large-scale AI data centers across the United States, with Oracle serving as a primary infrastructure operator alongside other partners.
A $16 billion financing commitment for a single campus would rank among the largest individual data center debt financings ever executed. The scale reflects both the capital intensity of modern AI compute infrastructure and the appetite among institutional lenders for long-term data center assets backed by hyperscale anchor tenants.
Saline Township, in Washtenaw County near Ann Arbor, was selected for the Michigan campus partly due to its proximity to power grid infrastructure and available land. Large AI training and inference facilities require hundreds of megawatts of power, and site selection is heavily influenced by utility capacity and the cost of securing dedicated power agreements.
Related Digital has been active in financing large-scale data center transactions and has relationships with institutional capital sources including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and insurance companies that have been increasing allocations to digital infrastructure as an asset class.
Oracle has not confirmed the financing timeline or provided updated construction milestones for the Michigan campus. The Stargate initiative overall has committed to investing up to $500 billion in US AI infrastructure over a multi-year period.
