Amazon Web Services released Strands Decider 2B, an open-source model available now that selects among predefined options and returns confidence scores, TechCrunch reported. The model is small enough to run locally and targets workflow steps that do not require a full text-generating language model.

Built on Qwen3.5-2B, it delivers calibrated choices rather than generated prose. AWS engineer Marc Brooker said customer conversations helped identify the need. He described a tradeoff between improving decision accuracy and calibration and preserving language understanding and general knowledge.
