# Amazon Transcribe lets customers choose encryption keys for custom resources

Amazon Transcribe now lets customers encrypt stored custom vocabularies, vocabulary filters and language models with an AWS key they manage. Previously, AWS-owned keys always protected those resources. Customers can supply their own symmetric key when creating or updating a resource; existing behavior continues if they do not.

Customer-managed keys let account owners set access permissions, review key use in AWS CloudTrail and disable or change a key to revoke access. The option is available in every AWS Region where Transcribe operates. It applies to those custom resources, rather than all data handled by the service.
