# Alibaba releases compact Qwen image model with tighter resale terms

Alibaba Cloud has released Qwen Image 2.1, an image generation model with 7 billion parameters that users can run on local graphics cards. It can produce transparent backgrounds and edit images using up to 10 references. Early user reports describe successful runs on consumer hardware, while Alibaba's claims that it rivals larger proprietary models rely partly on its own benchmark.

The new license also changes how developers can commercialize the model: reselling it requires a separate license from Alibaba. The restriction applies to the model rather than images users generate with it, according to the company's clarification.
