# India outlines $13 billion second phase for semiconductor mission

India is committing $13 billion to the second phase of its semiconductor mission, according to the report, extending an effort to build domestic chip design, manufacturing, assembly and testing capacity.

The government has approved 12 projects across six states, while production beginning this year is mainly in assembly, testing and packaging. Federal subsidies can cover up to half of semiconductor manufacturing project costs, with further state support available. The report says India still imports 90-95% of its semiconductors and faces needs for reliable utilities and fab-operating skills.
