Linus Torvalds's first LLM-assisted series of ten patches produced an order-of-magnitude speedup in a read-heavy benchmark, LWN reported. Review has already identified a race condition, so the code needs further work.

The patches delay releasing frequently used folios, which hold memory pages, through an RCU period that protects concurrent access. This allows a fast path to read their data without taking reference counts when copying data to the user does not cause page faults.
