Microsoft pauses KB5002907 after Office 2016 and 2019 disruptions

Microsoft has paused its KB5002907 update after reports that it deactivated or removed some Office 2016 and Office 2019 installations. The optional update was intended to bring Microsoft 365 Apps installations more than 90 days out of date onto a current build, but users with one-time-purchase Office licenses also reported problems. Microsoft says affected customers can reactivate an unlicensed copy. In what it calls rare cases where Office was removed, customers must download and reinstall their purchased copy. The company is investigating; it has not confirmed a technician's account that installations mixing 32-bit and 64-bit Office components caused some removals.
