Google's Gemini Mac App Just Learned How to Listen

Google announced today that its Gemini app for Mac is gaining native voice assistance and transcription capabilities. The company said the features are rolling out from the back end and may not appear immediately even with the latest version 1.88.5.636 installed. Google says users will be able to create, edit and summarize with Gemini using just their voice, including dictating directly into virtually any document or text field. By long-pressing the Fn key, users can speak naturally into any window on the desktop for intelligent dictation that automatically removes filler words and catches mid-sentence corrections. The update will also allow users to enable Gemini reasoning through voice prompts with screen context support. Examples include highlighting files and asking Gemini to summarize information or highlighting text and asking for a rewrite. Gemini for Mac launched in April and is a free download compatible with macOS Sequoia 15.0 or later on Apple silicon devices.
