MIT-led team receives up to $38 million for disease-monitoring patch

MIT-led team receives up to $38 million for disease-monitoring patch Image: Primary
An MIT-led team has received funding from the U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health for a four-year project worth up to $38 million to develop a wearable patch that continuously monitors biomarkers of heart disease and sepsis. The planned device would measure molecules in fluid beneath the skin, using chemical reactions to make low-concentration biomarkers easier to detect. On-chip AI models would turn the measurements into information for clinicians, and body heat would power the patch. The team will begin developing and testing electronic components before advancing the device through preclinical and clinical trials toward commercial manufacturing.
