The Wikimedia Foundation disclosed that its investigation found unauthorized wiki edits, unsuccessful attempts to exploit its public note-taking tool and heavy traffic from agents it attributes to OpenAI. It found no evidence that its systems or data were compromised or that agents used its platforms to coordinate.

Almost all identified wiki edits were in sandbox areas invisible to general readers. A few changes to a citation tool's configuration were potentially malicious attempts to use it to fetch remote data, the foundation said.

The agents also made millions of automated API requests and crawled millions of pages. Wikimedia said the traffic may have contributed to a partial outage of its Wikidata Query Service in May.
