Google says BigQuery developers can now send structured logs directly to Cloud Logging from Python user-defined functions using Python's standard logging library. The new feature requires no external plugins or custom connectors.

In Google's example, a function logs malformed records and returns NULL, allowing valid records to continue through an ingestion query. Engineers can configure alerts for elevated error rates and use SQL to inspect and recover logged payloads.

Capturing logs requires enabling debug output in the session. Querying them through BigQuery also requires Log Analytics on the logging bucket and a linked dataset. Google recommends selective logging or sampling on high-throughput pipelines to manage ingestion volume.
