WordPress.com adds an AI Assistant that can edit, adjust styles, create images, and more Image: Primary
WordPress.com, the website hosting platform from Automattic, announced Tuesday that it is adding a built-in AI assistant. The feature is designed to work inside the site to understand its content and layout, allowing owners to make changes through natural language commands. The assistant can adjust a site's layout, style, or patterns based on general instructions, such as making a section feel more modern or spacious, changing colors to be brighter and bolder, or adding a contact page or testimonials section. These adjustments appear on the site as users work. The tool operates with block themes but does not appear in the editor for classic themes, the company said. The assistant can also rewrite site content, such as updating a bio or translating a section into another language. It offers headline suggestions, fact checks, and grammar edits through the block notes editor that arrived in WordPress 6.9. Users access these functions For visuals, the assistant uses Google Gemini's Nano Banana AI models to generate new images or edit existing ones. A new Generate Image button appears in the Media Library for specifying requirements like aspect ratios or styles. The feature is opt-in and can be enabled in site settings under AI tools. It activates automatically for customers who purchase a site with the AI website builder.
