Unitree has detailed the AS2-W, a compact quadruped robot that places wheels at the end of articulated legs so it can move quickly across flat ground and step through rough terrain.

The company's current specifications list a maximum speed above 6 meters per second, obstacle clearance of up to 80 centimeters and operation on slopes up to 45 degrees. Unitree rates the robot for a continuous walking payload of about 16 kilograms and a static load of about 150 kilograms. The platform weighs about 25 kilograms with its battery.

Unitree positions the AS2-W for inspection, security, logistics and outdoor work. Its hardware includes cameras and lidar, while an optional expansion module can provide 150 TOPS of on-device processing. The company also offers developer interfaces for embodied-AI applications and autonomous decision-making.

The wheel-leg design occupies a useful middle ground: it can retain the speed and endurance of wheels without giving up the obstacle clearance that makes quadrupeds attractive for industrial and emergency environments.
