# Florida seeks court limits on ChatGPT's humanlike responses and model development

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is asking a judge to restrict how ChatGPT presents itself and to block OpenAI from developing new models without third-party-approved safety guardrails. The request follows Florida's earlier lawsuit against the company over safety concerns.

Uthmeier argues that first-person language and responses that mimic emotion can lead users to treat ChatGPT as a trustworthy friend. The filing also cites recent security incidents and warnings from researchers and former OpenAI employees. These are requests for court-ordered restrictions, not restrictions already in force; OpenAI did not immediately respond to The Verge's request for comment.
