Git.kernel.org says it is turning off features and gating expensive actions for anonymous users after AI-oriented scraping created sustained load across its infrastructure.

The operator reports about 6 million daily requests for random commits, with 33% passing its Anubis challenge; it estimates legitimate traffic at roughly 2% under generous assumptions. Across five geographically distributed nodes, 14 to 16 of 90 CPU cores are said to be continuously rendering commits for scrapers.

The site will continue offering its data for download, but says anonymous access may lose functionality.
