Cloudflare Radar: Super Typhoon Sinlaku drove longest Q2 2026 internet outage

Cloudflare's quarterly Radar summary says the longest internet disruption it tracked in the second quarter of 2026 came when Super Typhoon Sinlaku passed just north of Guam, while government-mandated exam shutdowns in Sudan were the most frequent events it highlighted. Traffic from Guam fell as much as 80% below expected levels from April 13 to 14 after tropical-storm-force winds knocked out power and disrupted water systems, Cloudflare reported. In Sudan, Radar logged 10 exam-period shutdowns between April 13 and 23, each lasting about 3.5 hours, and three shorter exam outages in Iraq in June. Iran began restoring national internet access from May 26 after an 88-day blackout that started February 28, with traffic later settling near about 59% of pre-shutdown levels, the company said. Cloudflare also tied lasting low HTTP traffic into AWS me-central-1 in the United Arab Emirates to physical damage from Middle East conflict, citing AWS reports of drone-strike impacts on facilities in the UAE and Bahrain. Other Q2 cases included a May 5 DENIC DNSSEC key-rollover fault that left validating resolvers rejecting .de answers until about 23:15 UTC, and a June 21 to 22 fiber cut that dropped Karib Cable traffic in Saint Lucia and cut the island's overall traffic by about 60% versus the prior week.
