# AWS Batch adds API-based authentication for EKS clusters

_Published Monday, October 5, 2026 at 5:09 PM EDT · Infrastructure · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says AWS Batch now supports EKS access entries, allowing its compute environments to authenticate to Kubernetes clusters through an API-based mechanism. Access entries grant AWS identity and access management principals cluster access and complement the existing aws-auth configuration map.

Operators enable the feature through the CreateComputeEnvironment or UpdateComputeEnvironment APIs. AWS Batch creates one access entry per cluster and associates its AWSBatchClusterPolicy with that entry. Operators can configure entries through the command-line interface, software development kits, or management console. The feature is available in all AWS Regions where AWS Batch is supported.
