Linus Torvalds has posted an AI-assisted Linux kernel patch in a development branch to address cache contention when many CPUs read the same file, Tom's Hardware reported. Such contention can arise in workloads involving shared libraries, databases and web servers.

Torvalds reported a 23x improvement in a dedicated synthetic benchmark. He cautioned that no real workload would see those figures, making the benchmark a demonstration of the targeted bottleneck rather than an expected general performance gain.
