# Gold Star Mortgage faces lawsuit over alleged data breach

A consumer has filed a potential class action against Gold Star Mortgage, alleging that the lender failed to protect personal information, National Mortgage News reported. Separately, the ransomware group BrainCipher claims it took more than 10,300 documents from the company, including credit reports, tax and income documents, and records containing Social Security numbers.

The lawsuit has not been certified as a class action and gives few details about the alleged incident or the number of people affected. Gold Star had not disclosed a breach in state attorney general databases cited by the publication and did not respond to its request for comment. BrainCipher's account of the theft remains an allegation.
