World Labs says it has signed a definitive agreement to join AMD, bringing its research on AI systems for spatial and physical tasks closer to the chipmaker's hardware work. The companies began a technical partnership last year to optimize model training and inference on AMD GPUs.

World Labs founder Fei-Fei Li is set to become an AMD executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting to CEO Lisa Su. Justin Johnson and Ben Mildenhall are expected to continue leading the World Labs team. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions.
