# Italian data centre group forecasts €36.9 billion of investment through 2036

Italy's commercial data centres could attract €36.9 billion ($41.5 billion) of investment through 2036, the Italian Datacenter Association said in research presented on October 8. The group expects capacity to reach about 2.3 gigawatts by 2031, compared with its previous forecast of 2 gigawatts for that year.

Demand for AI and cloud computing underpins the forecast, but planned projects substantially exceed advanced developments. Firms have requested grid connections for between 60 and more than 100 gigawatts, while only about 1.9 gigawatts of projects are at an advanced stage. From 2023 to 2025, actual spending was €7.1 billion against €10.5 billion planned.
