Sony reset passwords for affected email accounts on October 27 after a breach exposed 2,585,481 So-net and plala customer records, Beebom reported, citing the company. Unauthorized access occurred on October 19, and attackers leaked information on October 24.

The exposed data included 2,141,986 So-net records, 443,495 plala records and 54,401 email address and password combinations. It also included 16 bank account records with account numbers. Sony shut down affected servers, blocked unauthorized access and reported the incident to Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission.
