Isar's Spectrum reaches orbit from Norway

German launch company Isar Aerospace sent its Spectrum rocket into an elliptical orbit from Andøya Space Center in Norway on Sept. 5, marking the first orbital launch from Western European soil. The second Spectrum flight carried five cubesats and one non-deployable scientific experiment. Isar said its first flight in March 2025 failed shortly after liftoff; the company investigated the failure and returned the vehicle to the pad after subsequent delays and scrubs. Spectrum is designed to carry about 1,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit.
