Hackers exposed names, phone numbers and addresses of more than 40,000 Department of Homeland Security agents, operatives and associates on October 28, including people involved in undercover operations, NPR reported. DHS acknowledged a potential breach and said it was working to address it.

The Department of Peace hacking group said it obtained the records by subverting DHS's single sign-on system. The material was published online, including in a searchable database. More than 21,000 records identify Customs and Border Protection employees, while another 10,000 relate to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its Homeland Security Investigations unit. The database covers about a fifth of DHS's workforce.
