OpenEvidence is introducing a free version of its medical AI service for clinicians in around 100 low- and middle-income countries, working with Anthropic, Reuters reports. The service answers clinical questions using peer-reviewed research and treatment guidelines; Anthropic supplies the underlying technology, while OpenEvidence says it adapts the tool to regional healthcare needs.

The expansion includes Uganda, Angola, Sudan, Haiti and Mongolia. A trial in Rwanda involved 45 local doctors and nurses who tested the tool and gave feedback. Critics caution that medical AI built largely on evidence from wealthier countries may not reflect care in other settings.
