# Apache offers committers shared access to sanctioned AI capabilities

_Published Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 3:07 PM EDT · AI, Security · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

The Apache Software Foundation is inviting committers to access LLMAO, a shared service for sanctioned AI inference and related capabilities that removes the need for each Project Management Committee to hold its own provider key.

The foundation says the service provides a unified access point for attribution, budgets and policy. Its Responsible AI Initiative also enabled security scans across 75 committees and 230 repositories in three days through access to frontier models under Anthropic's Project Glasswing program. Recommendations for governing donated funds, compute time and inference tokens are still being produced.
