# Amazon Inspector adds vulnerability scans for EC2 machine images

AWS says Amazon Inspector can now scan EC2 Amazon Machine Images for software vulnerabilities without launching instances or installing additional software. Customers can continuously monitor their image catalogs or run one-time scans from the EC2 Console.

Security teams can use scan results to set criteria governing which images are available within an account and enforce those criteria across an organization. Customers using EC2 Image Builder can integrate scanning into their pipelines and restrict distribution of images that fail their security standards. The capability is available in all commercial AWS Regions where Amazon Inspector operates.
