Louisiana's economic development agency introduced criteria Thursday that data center developers must meet to receive an equipment sales tax exemption, NOLA.com reported. Companies must submit a detailed attestation showing university partnerships, sustainable local revenue and long-term commitments to community schools and nonprofits.

Developers had claimed $39 million in exemptions as of mid-September. The new requirements follow a June executive order requiring developers to pay for their own power to qualify for the tax break. How the state will determine compliance with the new criteria remains unclear; an agency spokesperson declined to answer questions Thursday.
