The top five hyperscale data centers, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Meta, and Oracle, are projected to spend over 600 billion dollars on infrastructure in 2026, a 36 percent increase from 2025. Roughly 450 billion dollars of that total targets AI infrastructure. When the lens expands to the 14 largest publicly traded data center operators, capital expenditure approaches 750 billion dollars for the year.

Goldman Sachs projects total hyperscaler capex from 2025 through 2027 will reach 1.15 trillion dollars, more than double the 477 billion dollars spent from 2022 through 2024. United States data center construction spending reached a monthly rate of 45.1 billion dollars by December 2025, up 85 percent from two years prior.

Accuris lead time tracking data shows semiconductor lead times reached 40 weeks in March 2026. Memory ICs and fiber optic components rank among the most acutely constrained. Up to 70 percent of all memory chips produced globally in 2026 will be consumed by AI data centers.

High-bandwidth memory consumes 23 percent of total DRAM wafer capacity. This reallocation drives what IDC describes as a global memory shortage crisis, with some analysts projecting 50 percent price spikes by mid-year. A shortage in power management IC supplies is expected throughout 2026.

Logic ICs and programmable logic devices reach 25 to 40 week lead times in March 2026. Fiber optic transceivers, connectors, and optical modules have entered the most extended lead time categories. Passive components show lead times of 10 to 20 weeks, with inductors appearing in extended categories in late 2025.

For OEMs outside the data center market, the boom creates longer lead times on shared component categories. Pricing pressure follows from demand-driven inflation. The Electronics Reseller Association International reported a 25 percent increase in counterfeit parts in 2024.
