Samsung Electronics announced Monday it has created a new Robotics eXperience Division to accelerate development of artificial intelligence and humanoid robots, the company said. The unit will report directly to Samsung's chief executive and oversee long-term strategy, core technology development and commercialization of robotics products.

Samsung appointed Lee Dong-kun, a former Hyundai Motor Group executive who helped oversee Boston Dynamics, to lead the robotics strategy team. The company plans to establish dedicated research hubs in the United States, China and Japan under a new RX Business Office reporting to co-CEO Roh Tae-moon and based primarily at Samsung's research campus in Seoul.

The announcement builds on Samsung's stated goal of achieving meaningful progress in humanoid robotics this year. The company said recent advances in physical AI have made robotics more practical for real-world use and plans to deploy humanoid robots first in manufacturing before expanding to homes and retail. Samsung has also hired robotics researchers Hyoun Jin-kim of Seoul National University and Kim Ui-kyum of Ajou University to strengthen its expertise.
